Just an Ordinary Man
The brisk wind whipped through my hair as I perched atop the lone hill over looking the village. Over the horizon, right before the sunrise, I saw the light of fires fuelled by the constant battle fought there since the rebellion of the northern provinces. It grew closer every day and I knew that the emperor would summon me and any other man capable of fighting to the aid of the emperor's fatigued armies.
The entire village was tense from the news that the emperor's army lost several hundred troops at multiple key battles and the dreaded news that the enemy was forcing their way through our land on a straight path to the emperor's palace. Ou
